I recently met up with members of the children’s disability charity Whizz-Kidz. This is a national organisation which aims to give disabled children and young people with increased independence by providing them with the right mobility equipment, essential training, work placements and the chance to join the UK-wide ‘Ambassador Network’, which provides opportunities for members to have their voices heard and to get involved in key decision made in their region.
The ambassador club in Edinburgh have chosen to campaign on disabled parking spaces being used up by non-disabled
people. Their aim is to get the able bodied population to understand that it is not acceptable to use a Blue Badge or disabled parking space. The meeting provided them with a chance to talk to their local councillors (and MP) as well to generate some publicity for their campaign.
